“Missing”: a file that moved
Why a video or a presentation shows as Missing, and how to find it again without rebuilding your schedules.
The library keeps track of where each file is. If you move it, rename it, delete it or unplug the USB stick it was on, it gets the Missing mark, and when you select it, Preview says Media not found.
Find it again
Select the file marked Missing.
In Preview, click Locate….
Find the file where it is now and choose it.
It's still the same item: the schedules that used it keep working. Files are located one at a time.
If it was on a USB stick or an external drive, just plug it in: when you go back to the app, it finds the file by itself within a few seconds.
Linked folders
If a linked folder isn't there (an unplugged USB stick or a drive whose letter changed), the tab shows “Couldn't read the library”. Plug in the drive and click Retry, or link the folder again.
Tip: For the service, it's better to have the files on the computer and not on a USB stick.
